Åmål is situated in the west of Sweden, in the region of Västra Götaland, on the shores of Lake Vänern – one of Europe´s largest lakes. London, Berlin or Paris is just a few hours away by air. The municipality has a population of 13,000 and a land area of 480 square kilometres. The history of the town is one of excitement, development and a strong belief in the future. Merchants first gathered by the river in Åmål more than 350 years ago.

To offer the industry in the regions of south Värmland, north Dalsland and Norway sustainable logistic solutions is the goal and the challenge in the future. Our strength is the connection between railroad, commercial harbour and road 45 (E45, Sicily – The North Cape). We have with these three possibilities direct access to the harbour of Gothenburg. Our latest investment is a reloading terminal between railroad and road transports. Before the investments this terminal had a capacity of 2,000 TEU/year, increased afterwards to a capacity of at least 10,000 TEU/year. The vision is a logistic centre created together with universities and manufacturers in the region, to provide a professional and fast route to and from the rest of Europe.

To make Åmål, along with the adjacent counties in northern Dalsland and southern Värmland, more attractive for the establishment of new companies and enable expansion of already existing companies by creating better logistics and cargo management.

Aim:

• to make integrated logistics possible by creating an effective cargo-reloading system between road and railway transport systems and seafreight
• to develop a modern cargo-reloading area and its surroundings in order to make the expansion of cargo management possible
• to conduct initial studies to investigate the possibility of developing the co-utilization of a railway tunnel and increased accessibility of the railway museum in the area

• work on the grounds, clean up the grounds and invest in the construction of a new terminal for cargo management
• conduct initial studies on the possibility of developing the co_utilization of a railway tunnel that connects Åmåls harbour with the cargo management terminal and study the possibilities of making the existing railway museum more visible
