Padborg Transport and Logistics Centre is a major concentration of transport and logistics and service firms. The centre has developed since 1920 when the present border between Denmark and Germany was drawn. The centre is constantly changing and developing.
In the fall of 2002/spring of 2003 a strategy process was implemented in the centre. The strategy process included situation analysis and identification of a number of strategic challenges and action options.
Among the acting options pointed out were
- Development of the logistic competency with basis in the special strength positions of the transport centre
- Development of alternatives to transport through Germany
- Development of Eastern Europe as a new market
In the future development of Padborg Transport and Logistics Centre it is thus important preconditions that the interplay between the transport centre and the trade and industry in the hinterland is developed.
- Development of new cooperation forms between the firms in the transport centre and the firms in the hinterland. This includes implementation of the new cooperation forms through networking, and development of ”best practise” cases.
- To develop concrete education modules targeted at logistics education for employees in the gateway and the hinterland.
- To form a foundation for increased use of combined transport by use of railway.
Today Padborg Transport and Logistics Centre have a rather good infrastructure. There is a terminal for combined goods and major parts (the old area) of the industrial area have railway tracks. The objective is through this project to develop a strategy for revitalising the use of the combined transport in the centre and to adjust the infrastructure in order to accomplish the plan.
